Five Star Rating System

The Five Star Rating System is complex and biased, leading consumers to believe that more stars means better care and a happier stay.

Consider these points:

• Different surveyors produce different outcomes. No two survey teams will arrive at the same conclusions since adherence to the regulations is not a black and white. It’s open to interpretation.
• Some homes who were rated, didn’t even make all the information available. They can’t be compared to other homes in an equitable way if their data isn’t even presented.
• The quality measures index for William Penn is misleading. We recently installed a new documentation system that enables us to capture not only more information but also more accurate information. As a result of this quality improvement measure, it appears that our residents declined when in fact they didn’t. Our assessment of their needs became completely accurate.

Now consider this:

• Our first commitment - always- is to provide quality care to residents in a safe and secure environment.
• Our customer satisfaction surveys rate us as excellent. Former residents and their families and friends are our best source of referrals.
